The PostgreSQL developers have released a first alpha of version 8.5 of their open source database system. The developer release contains 36 patches. With its new approach of releasing alpha versions, the PostgreSQL project intends to give advanced users early access so they can test and report problems with new features and new code as early as possible.
The alpha versions are not stable and unsuitable for production use. They are, therefore, only available in source code form. Some binary versions may be released at a later date. Three or four further alpha versions are scheduled for release within a couple of months.

Sentrigo announced Hedgehog 3.0, which now supports Microsoft SQL Server 2008 running on Windows Server 2008, as well as SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2000 running on earlier Windows platforms. Additionally, the virtual patching solution Hedgehog vPatch now includes dozens of additional protections specific to SQL Server.

Embarcadero Technologies released a new suite of tools aimed at developers looking to tune Java and SQL code in data driven applications.
The revamped tools are based on the CodeGear technology San Francisco-based Embarcadero acquired last year from Borland Software and are focused at the design, building and running of database applications. The tools address the various stages of the database development and performance management lifecycles.

Yii is a high-performance framework. The graph below shows how efficient Yii is when compared with other popular PHP frameworks. In the graph, RPS stands for "request per second" which describes how many requests an application written in a framework can process per second. The higher the number, the more efficient a framework is. As we can see that Yii outperforms all other frameworks in this comparison. The performance advantage of Yii is especially significant when the widely used APC extension is enabled.
